BIOGRAPHY OF JEFFREY P. ELLYOTT
Born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado, Jeff Elliott relocated to Denver in 1989. Elliott’s strong interest in the history of furniture and decorative arts persuaded him to pursue an education in interior design. In 1994 he graduated from the FIDER accredited Interior Design Institute of Denver. During this four year period, Jeff worked with Jim Chandler at Gateway Antiques, and with Kay Mcpeek of Kay Mcpeek Interior Design.
In 1995, restaurateur Larry Herz asked Jeff Elliott to design his small restaurant, Carmines on Penn. From the favorable publicity generated by that space came a run of designs for restaurants and clubs, and the economic opportunity to work as an independent designer. In 2000, Elliott’s most noted design the A-Bar, was awarded second place at the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID)/Colorado Chapter awards.
The year 2000 also provided Elliott with the chance to explore his main passion – residential interior design-- and in August of that year, Elliott’s project for writer Adam Schefter won Colorado Homes and Lifestyles Home of the Year. Steadily, more residential projects, both traditional and contemporary, turned the focus of Elliott’s work from hospitality to residential design and today his workload is about 85 percent residential. On average, two hospitality projects a year are accepted.
On May 12, 2005, Elliott’s night club project for Francois Safieddine, Lotus, was awarded first place by ASID/Colorado Chapter’s annual competition for the category of Hospitality Under 10,000 Square Feet.
Elliott’s approach to design has always been inspired by history. Ideally, each client will identify with a certain furniture style, which is often integrated into their design concept. This style interest, whether Empire or Atomic Modern, should be set in simple and understated surroundings so that individual features are not overwhelmed by excessive details.]]>
